People placed inside a segregated world where they cannot conjugated with each other with ease and are encouraged not to ask any questions and their desire to leave is answered immediately and with no turning back, and their apparent demise is televised, without actually preventing people from leaving, because that could cause a rebellion. So it’s more like “you wanna leave? Leave. Go see for yourself and everyone go see in real time what happens to those who do leave, not at our own hands, but the hands of the harsh world out there
This maintains the fear and the illusion of safety inside, and the fact that the tech has not advanced inside for 140 (if that’s even truly the amount of time they spent there) ensures that people don’t have any theories about what technology can do, for example, we live in a more technological advanced world, so thinking “this video is fake, that visor is a screen with virtual reality” because we’ve seen tech that can do that, the Silo citizens don’t know such a thing exist, so they don’t get more skeptical, and this is far more effective as a strategy to keep everyone in, instead of violently prohibiting leaving.
From here, that’s apparently theories after the season 1.
As for the purpose of the Silo, I believe it’s either a spaceship or an experiment. There was a 6-part miniseries called Ascension (2014) that bears striking resemblance to Silo. There, people are on a spaceship heading to another planet and the tech level and aesthetic is 50s America and they are waiting to reach their destination for a few generations, but things aren’t exactly as they seem, and there are twists and a mystery. So I do recommend watching that show, it’s available on iTunes.
OK, noted. I think we’d watch it then.
There’s also Pandorum and The Island movies, both remind me so much of the premise of Silo, but each has its own twist regarding what’s going on in the outside world, and are quite worth a watch. So feel free to watch them, and if you have, feel free to discuss. I don’t wanna spoil them here.

So,
Juliette is going to uncover an old nintendo 64 in silo’s 18 legacy. She’s gonna become addicted to playing it, all the silo will follow, making them effectively a geek gamer silo. The algorithm will say “this is the way”. Bernard will not accept this and leave as he prefers playstation graphics.
Oh, jokes aside, I think I should have read each mega thread on Reddit for each episode. It makes the entire silly show like a collective intellectual game. Sad, it’s a bit too late, but I can read the old episodes too. Why not, right? It’s still interesting.

problem with it: a non poisonous environment contradicts the (almost forgotten by everyone at this point) silo suit helmet applevision-integration based encouragement that’s trying to fool the user to take off the helmet - by faking a non poisonous environment.
I think taking the helmet off is either irrelevant, or makes the person inhale the fumes off the costume.

I don’t understand why they are so obsessed with Daniel? They gave us a few lines about how good an engineer he is, but they’ve not shown him really do anything up to this point.
The silos are built, what do they need him so badly for now? Why is the weird ass doctor seemingly behind so much of this plan lol.
They want to make Daniel “The Protagonist”, but I’m not bought in at all. Bernard has been a much more interesting character and now he’s dead.

I thought he was deeply involved in the project but got the memory drug and forgot everything. He rediscovered the silos because of Helen. But it is just a guess because apart from this weird obession to have him in the silo, nothing else points in that direction.

Did anyone notice the arrangement of the silos is not exactly what Juliette and Bernard inferred? Some of them are in groups of 7 arranged together, but some (and specifically the cluster 17 and 18 are in) are in groups of 8 with a less symmetrical shape. Not sure if that’s noteworthy.

If I recall Lucas and Kennedy went out early. The voice was frustrated by this. The standard safe guard could not be deployed so they sent the backup which as best we can guess was an armed drone.
As far as 51st silo I’ve wondered if it isn’t connected to this group at all. It’s buried in a mountain somewhere else and has other important people in it. Just a theory though.
The latter part is less so.
By the way, what’s the nano bot after all?
Correct me if im wrong but in a gray goo apocalypse scenario every single piece of usable mass on a planet would be consumed for self replication all the way down to the planetary core so silos buried just beneath the surface would absolutely not survive that. We also see in the background when julie leaves the silo for the first time the remnants of a ruined city with buildings still standing. A super genius like stenson would be fully aware that silos could not hide from a nano swarm so to me it just has to be something else.
And
I guess it would depend on the particular nanobot construction and programming. Maybe, they would only consume organic matter / living tissues, or on the contrary would only consume metal / technology stuff.
My guess is that it’s rather some metal consuming thing.
they could also be biological nanobots that do feed on human remains, but don’t need every material on earth because they dont utilize or reuse metals/calcium. yes they can attack and kill people, destroy a jet etc, but it’s possible they just don’t or can’t harm the concrete the silo is made out of.

Hear me out! What if the timeline isn’t 300 years in the future? What if it’s only a couple dozens years and everyone is on the forgetting drug? They could’ve faked the rebellions to keep people in line. It would make sense as to why the voice sounds like Daniel.
I bet is that only the young generation is born in the Silos, while the elders actually remember the old world. And I bet the world did not change at all.

My theory is that Cleaning poison is administered in the airlock, and it takes about three minutes to kill the Cleaner through the inferior suit tape. This is all per Silo 1’s specifications. Juliette survived because she was the first one sent out to clean whose suit used good tape (“They’re good in Supply”). She made it to Silo 17, first person in the Silos’ history to do so, because she caught Silo 1 off guard and they didn’t have enough time and advanced warning to launch the armed drone that shot at Lukas Kyle and Patrick Kennedy. Furthermore, I think the “poison” in the airlock

I think this is related to “ya outside with the good tape, ya got shot, ya got holes in ya suit, and ya still didn’t die?” Season 1, 2, and the beginning of 3, goes on about outside is bad (Juliette tells Kennedy that the outside is bad). Yet, the shows just go on without the characters wondering how Lukas is alive with bullet holes in his suit.
If you take that and think “is the outside safe then?”, you’ll probably come up with a bit of ops theory. The nano in the gas and is super concentrated in the chamber. It probably gets disperse in the open world when you step out there and won’t die like Lukas. Silo 1 probably release a dust storm of nano to kill silo 17. Can’t have these guys running around outside doing jumping jacks in front of other silo cameras. Probably answer the “why?” for the need of a safeguard (or multiple safeguards). It’s definitely some sort of experiment or else they would let silo interact with other silo, or people can outright leave the silo and never come back. Can’t have that happening.
If it’s safe outside then why does it still look like a wasteland? I’m guessing every silo had people wanting to “clean”, and each time someone goes out, they release a bit of nano into the area to sterilize the silo/surroundings.
I go further and ask if there are different type of nano, like one to make you forget (in the vitamin d+), the concentrated form via pill (that they gave Juliette) and the birth control. No clue

Any scene where Stensen, Crnkovich, Henry or the Thurmans interact with Daniel you should keep in mind what Shirley said to Sheriff Billings in S2.
What if the Founders were lying through their teeth?
The Founders are not on some noble cause to save humanity, it’s the opposite of that. They are the crazy psychos who wiped out civilization and want to reseed the world with an obedient and docile population serving them.
The dirty bomb in DC was faked. There were a few clues to that in the scene in the S2 finale.
Thurman’s fixer, Henry was following Charlotte when she went to meet her brother before the mission.
Charlotte’s squadron encountered the nanobot cloud 500km from their objective. They were nowhere near Turkmenistan when her plane went down.
Stensen was on the Nimitz at the time of her mission.
The reason Stensen would know that everyone is dead already is because it’s his tech.
I think the obvious purpose of Silo 51 is to store the equipment and resources for reseeding the planet and that’s where the tunnel at the bottom of the digger void leads.
