I came to Nadia’s school a bit later than Solomia wanted me. She wanted me to take Nadia by 17:00 as maximum (although it’s allowed to have kids at school till 18:30), yet I allowed myself to be fifteen minutes ‘late.’
There was no issue in me being late, Nadia was watching kids movies on YouTube. She looked tired, she didn’t sleep during the day. Some boys of another group (they have two classes in that room) were noisy, and someone was watching cartoons, and so Nadia didn’t sleep. It’s visible when she didn’t have her day’s rest.
We talked with Nadia’s teacher for almost an hour. There are three of them, but I’m not sure I can distinguish their roles as of now. One is assistant, and another one … well, I cannot tell.
Then a physical activity teacher came, having her snack in a box (syrnyky, pancakes made of cottage cheese, eggs, and flour). She’s quite old, she’s 50 years in the school! Upon her arrival we were having the conversation of us willing to improve the schooling conditions for us and others too. I told them we were discussing that with Solomia and came to the conclusion we want to try to find some grants, some investors. Since we, parents, cannot improve these conditions meaningfully. We could surely buy a toilet, for our class (of just four kids), for our own kid to have a proper conditions, but that’s nothing. The whole thing needs renovation, at least some.
Not finished
Also idea:
- computer
- Cartoons
- forum, maybe a private one, to have invites-only community for parents, old and new
I explored the computer they have in class. The one Nadia was watching YouTube from.
Hardware
- Display HP LA2205wg is connected with VGA cable. The picture quality was just awful. It has display port (DP), DVI, VGA.
- GPU is AMD Radeon HD 6670. It has HDMI, DVI, VGA ports. Maybe I need to buy them a DVI cable to fix this. I can bring mine to test first, before buying.
Linux
I’m really curious, do they need any Windows at all? What if I’d reinstall it with some Linux with KDE? They won’t notice, it would work much faster, and securely too.
What if I’d just buy an SSD for them, and max out their disks? It’s not too expensive, especially if we’d take used disks. I could use SSD for the system, use disks for optional data (cartoons downloaded offline, so to avoid ads at least) plus backups.
