Alpha dad

There’s this dad in our neighbourhood, he’s incredibly cool. Well, at least according to him.

His body language is just so hilarious to observe. It’s very easy to mimic him, he’s very caricatural. He appears as a dominant alpha male. I guess he’s sure about it.

I am afraid of people like him.

He wears Bluetooth headphones. Always. All the time. I haven’t seen him without them.

Not Apple’s, yet not cheapest ones, I guess. If that contributes to the image.

The fuck is he listening to? All. The. Fucking. Time. Podcasts? Lectures? Is he applying to MIT, and is preparing for the exams?

He’s not necessarily stupid, perhaps he’s not. But definitely he has a tremendous amount of hidden issues. I have a weird mix of being slightly scared of him, and also pitying him.

All this got me thinking, does he wants his son to be an alpha male too?

Is he alpha himself? I have no idea. I’m not an average person to make this conclusion, for me he’s rather a pathetic loser, so he’s somewhere closer to the end of the Greek alphabet. But I guess he thinks of himself as an alpha and I bet there are people who’d think of him this way either.

He constantly pushes his son, he criticises him all the evening. All the fucking time. They arrived (very late, after 8 PM, most of the and their parents are left), and I felt it’s the perfect timing for us to leave too. (Which we did in 15 minutes or so.)

‘Don’t go there, don’t do that, do that instead. Whatcha doin’?’

Oh fuck you already! He’s five! (Or six. Or four. I have no idea, it’s somewhere there.) Stop overcompensating! He’s not you, and teaching kids isn’t pushing them to be or not be someone you wish (or not) to become. It’s being there for them, and trying to be a better person yourself. So they would have someone to learn from. You don’t teach them anything (mostly), it’s them learning from you. That’s the whole wisdom.

It’s not that complicated.
