Early morning 5th run

Woke up before 6 today, and it felt like I didn’t want to sleep any longer. So I did my early hygiene and went on running.

Almost.

Blue Car Alarming

Before the entry door, I heard this weird noise. First, I thought that’s my Orange Pi SBC that produces some HDD noises, yet it wasn’t it. It had some almost inaudible sounds indeed, but nothign too loud. I started to seek the source of it, and it brought me to the room where the family was still sleeping. Solomia was woken up by the sound, and said ‘it’s that blue car (of Hnat)’ and turned out that was that blue car indeed. Turned out it was on all the time, and started signaling its battery needs charge.

Yeah, an expensive smart toy. Waking you up at 5 am because it realised it’s battery is almost dead. Cool, right?

‘I’m going to run,’ I said, to which Solomia’s replied ‘wow’ both affirmatively and with admiration too.

Attaboy, me.

Wows

While running, I realised that ‘wow’ makes me rather sad. There’s no wow in it for me now. This running practice takes zero willpower!

I recalled one other ‘wow’ of mine. Once, I had that new lover and one of our first sex sessions was 5 hours of moving all across her apartment, having sex on possibly every imaginable surface, before I ejaculated on her back.

Then I heard her tired ‘oh wow.’ Well, that was ‘oh wow’ for me too.

But I could easily explain that today. I’ve been living an easy and relatievly comfort life, having very little work to do, plenty of money to not worry much about my future. Plenty of sport to keep me strong and endure. Plus a daily meditation practice to keep me focused and mindful. A combination of that, plus a lover you care about, plus some magic, that easily makes a remarkable lovemaking possible.

A five hours sex session sounds crazy now, and almost unbelievable. (And I am surprised the girl handled it too! She wasn’t an athlete then, after all.) But that was the point in time I had been tracking all my activities with a special iPhone app, so I’m pretty sure about the time estimate. We could cut half an hour here and there, but it’s still very long.

And not that I’m trying to brag by this recollection of mine. Back then, it wasn’t even something outstanding to me, rather something regular. (I mean, as a physical activity.)

Get Yourself Out

Still, I was sad by her ‘wow’ here as in ‘ouch, are our expectations that low now?’ I mean, I’m having zero — and I mean that, zero — issues with bringing myself out of home to run now. Especially considering it’s Summer now, almost the longest day of the year.

The longest day of the year, known as the summer solstice, occurs in the Northern Hemisphere around June 20, 21, or 22. This day has the most hours of daylight and marks the official start of summer.

The weather isn’t ideal today, it’s very windy, but the morning was quite comfortable. Especially by my estimates. I’ve been running for thousands of kilometers, for years, and I’m long past this ‘too difficult to bring ourself out of the house’ stage. Impressive ‘wow’ of mine was when I’ve been running through the snow storm and through the heavy rain, just because I was commited into it seriously. I’m not sure I’d do that these days. I think I’d rather skip the day, or choose another time, when the weather is a bit more friendly. These days, I run mostly daily, because I have no reason to not run. It’s still too easy for me to do that.

It was the 5th run this week today, and I skipped no day, and it took me no effort. I guess, at running I’m at the pro stage already. I’m having no pains, and it felt like there was no all these years before today and the recent runs I had.

My statistics is pretty discouraging: Ah, OK, I need to explore my for-runs iPod, and I’m not doing that right now, so… maybe some other time.

The Run

Today’s run was just average, nothing special. I forgot to check the chair, whether it’s on its place. I’ve been near it, but I just forgot to watch that way, since my route was slightly different, like 10 meters from the chair, while yesterday I run just near it.

The very long asphalted road downhill was not sunny today (at 6 am). It’s mostly lit with sun at midday, and I’m to check it at more reasonable time (9 to 10 am, after the kids are delivered to their kindergarten), but I guess the sun is already tehre. Running with no active sun shining on you feels much better.

No yoga girls today, and some lone runners. Three or four, plus me.

End of my route, I was simply walking. That felt natural too. Like, it’s absolutely normal. I wasn’t pushing myself, I’m just in the flow, when I do run.

After my 2nd or 3rd run, I’ve been thiking maybe I should try to run half-marathon here in Lviv, but more likely the next year. I have no interest in any rewards, or even any competition, but still I’d love to participate, just for the sake of it. Maybe Hnat would enjoy the show of his dad running, so I can make the family slightly proud for that, since it’s quite easy for me. At this time, I think the next year is a very reasonable time estimate. That might give me some extra motivation — I don’t really need it with run, but still, why not? — to keep running till the next Summer, and so to be ready for the half-marathon. Long ago, I wanted to run marathon, but these days it feels like not necessary at all. I don’t feel like I’m even willing to prepare to that, and to run that. Running for a super-long time feels just stupid and wasteful for me personally. I’m totally fine with others doing that, and I’m cheerful and all, but I just don’t feel like I need that.

With running, I feel like there’s nothing to prove. I absolutely love that state! Not many things in life, when I have achieved everything that I wanted, and I’m just satisfied with what that is. Running 10 km a day, being lean, endure, strong, etc. is no longer something special to me, and so I just simply know I can do that again, easily.

Actually, that’s wonderful. I expected myself to be much less prepared. I thought I’d have a shortness of breath, but I have none. Even climbing up the hill near our house, it’s still not too difficult. It’s challenging, and I think it’ll be for years to come — it takes about 10 minutes to walk from its base to the top, our house — but still, it’s nothing of too special.

I am lucky to have such a magnificient place to live. I think that’s the best location in this city for a runner. A huge forest-like park just out of my window. I could literally jump off my window and be in the park, if I felt like into parkour.

I plan to run early yesterday, since the kids are at home. I guess I’m running daily these days only because it’s the easiest, and I’d like to keep a streak. Plus, I’d like to exercise daily, so at some later point, I’ll just introduce some other exercises instead of running, and will run every other day, or just a couple of times a week.

That’s my plan for now.
